All Sex Is NOT Made Equal: The 5 Main Types Of Sexual Encounters

By Ekaterina Mironova

Rather than lumping our steamy between the sheets activities into one broad category labelled ‘sex’, let’s look at the five main types of sexual encounter individually. Most of us have partaken in all of the below types of sex at one time or another during our lives, and the groups are not static. We could engage in passionate experimental sex, or drunken make-up sex - but to keep it simple let’s split them up a bit.

Passionate Sex:

We all know the feeling of the ‘gotta-have-you-now’ desperation which often comes prior to a passionate romp with our significant others. It is a heady mix of tingles, a racing heart and breathlessness that sends us to seventh heaven when our lover finally touches us. It’s incredible and this kind of sex should be savoured! However, not every session brings with it such animalistic urges; sometimes you just want to be romantic and take your time a little more…

Romantic Sex:

A night relaxing in bed with your partner in a room full of candles, or a soak in a bath full of rose petals is extremely romantic and will often lead to slower, more meaningful sex. This type of sex is usually reserved for those who are in long term relationships and know their way around their partner’s body with great detail and skill. Rather than feeling desperate and dizzy like we do during passionate sex, instead we feel totally in tune with our partner’s and our own body.Total bliss…

Make-up Sex:

So you’ve had an argument with your partner and it has descended into the silent treatment and/or the occasional scowl in their direction. If you’re anything like me and my fiancé the next step is steamy and slightly angry make-up sex! What better way to make up than showing each other how much you really care about them despite your disagreement?! Kissing and making up is bound to follow!

Experimental Sex:

Experimental sex refers to sexual activity which involves an element of the taboo, in other words it involves something slightly ‘other’ which you may not have tried before. Some taboos include threesomes, anal sex, acting out fantasies and bondage; all of which are employed by a large percentage of UK couples in order to spice things up a bit. So go on, get experimenting!

Drunken Sex:

Yes we have all done it; hobbled home, burst through the door giggling and swaying and attempted to climb the stairs to bed whilst wondering why our house has suddenly become a rocking and rolling boat! Once we have made it to the bedroom the story is often the same; despite the overwhelming desire to sleep we lift an eyebrow at our partner as an invitation and give sex a go. Sometime it works out well…sometimes not, but it’s always fun and light-hearted!

So what is your favourite type of sex?
