If you have ever considered using an anal douche but don't know where to begin then this step by step guide should give you all the answers that you're looking for. The simplest form of an anal douche is made up of a bulb and a removable nozzle with one or more holes at the end. Anal douches can be very useful if you're a fan of anal intercourse or penetration with anal toys. Douches essentially work by cleansing the anus with water prior to any sort of penetration so that any type of intercourse or sex toy play is as hygienic as it can be and a lot less messy which can also lead to more sexual confidence.
The best time to use an anal douche is approximately 45 minutes prior to any anal play taking place in order to achieve the optimum degree of cleanliness. It's also important to leave this amount of time before anal activities in order to let the body adjust properly. After using a douche, it's also a good idea to use an anal lubricant and take part in some form of anal foreplay (for example, using fingers) prior to full penetration.
As with any sex toy, before using the anal douche initially, rinse it with water to ensure that it's thoroughly clean.
Secondly, fill the douche bulb with lukewarm water (by squeezing the air out of the bulb then immersing it in water or by taking off the nozzle and running it under a tap). It is essential that the water you use is clean and that you firstly test the temperature on the back of your hand to make sure that it isn't too hot. A standard size douche holds approximately 400ml of fluid.
Re-attach the nozzle to the bulb if this was removed when filling.
Use an anal lube such as Aquaglide Anal Lubricant (priced at £8.47) on the tip of the douche and around the anus then gently ease the nozzle into the anal passageway. You may need to adjust the angle of your body accordingly to get the nozzle in correctly. The best way to do this is over a toilet because this keeps everything hygienic. It's also easier to find the correct insertion angle by doing it this way.
Once the douche has been inserted into the anus, squeeze the bulb which will distribute the water into the anal passageway. It's better to begin slowly using gentle squeezes of the bulb and work up to firmer squeezes which will result in a quicker, more powerful flow of water into the anus. Passing water into the anal passageway using a douche will rid the lower part of the anus of any waste materials. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, slow down the flow of water into the anus by squeezing the bulb more slowly.
When removing the douche, do so gently and hold onto the water in your anal passageway until you feel the urge to release it naturally.
This should be repeated a number of times until the water that you are releasing becomes clear. This can be checked more comprehensively when the toilet is flushed after several rinses.
Once you have finished using the douche for anal cleansing, always remember to clean it with an anti-bacterial agent such as a sex toy cleaner to prevent the spread of potentially harmful bacteria. This is a particularly important thing to do when it comes to anal sex toys.
One of the best-selling and best value douches available is the Uni-Sex Anal/Vaginal Douche (priced at £6.97), which is made up of a bulb and a screw-in single holed nozzle. Other, more elaborate douches are available that feature nozzles with more than one hole. Anal douche kits can also be purchased. These kits come with more than one nozzle and/or bulb to provide regular or circular spraying motions. An enema can also be used to clean the anus but it differs from a douche because it can hold considerably more fluid (usually anything up to 2 litres) and has longer nozzles that can extend much further into the anal passageway therefore providing a deeper level of cleaning. Because of this, enemas are normally used to induce a bowel movement.
