Dedicated Play Room - Some Tips For Building Your BDSM Play Room Part 3

By Tatyana Dyachenko

If you have a completely free room that you can easily lock then this is what you're most likely going for. Being able to lock the room isn't really a necessity, of course, but most couples find it to be an excellent idea. If you're converting the room from a play room you can hide to a dedicated play room there are a few specific things to keep in mind. First of all, you'll need to turn another room into a multi-function room. This is fairly easy to do simply by moving most of the furniture to the new room. Aside from that, it's a fairly simple matter of deciding what gear you want to keep and what you want to replace with more permanent equipment.

If you're starting a dedicated play room from scratch, however, you have a lot of choices open to you. For small equipment storage the armoire is still recommended. It's a handy piece of furniture that can add a great look to the room whether open or closed. You can also start hanging wall mounts in the room for whips, rope, chains, and other sizable items you might commonly use. It's quite likely that this room isn't very large so try to keep the amount of wall mounts you use to a minimum.

The main upside of a dedicated play room is in your choice of bondage gear and equipment. With the other two rooms so far you're mostly limited to collapsible furniture or equipment that attaches to regular furniture. With a dedicated play room, however, you're free to get full bondage furniture limited only by the room's size. A St. Anthony's cross and a bondage bench are considered the staples of a dedicated play room and are extremely handy for most bondage play. You might also consider purchasing a wooden horse for the room. It's a piece of furniture more for S&M; play than pure bondage play but it is still a useful and comparatively inexpensive piece of furniture. Another piece of equipment you might want to consider, assuming your ceiling can support it, is a chain, hook, or ring attached to the ceiling. This can be easily complemented with a ring or two on the floor underneath of it. You can use these in conjunction to hold your partner in place in the center of the room in a variety of positions. This is perfect for play involving displaying your partner, as well as for giving you easy access to their bodies. If you decide to go this route, you'll want to be very careful. Take the time to install the ceiling fixture properly, in a way that anchors it into a beam with the proper bolts, so you avoid the risk of it falling out. This will not only leave you with a hole in the wall but it's also dangerous to your partner if they're attached to the fixture when it happens. For this reason, you may want to hire a professional to install the fixture.

Aside from that, it's simply a matter of decoration. This is where the wall mounts mentioned earlier can come in. A fresh coat of paint, removing the carpet if necessary, and some heavy bondage furniture can make this really feel like a proper play room. Unfortunately, you are limited a large degree by the size of your room. If your room is fairly sizable this isn't much of a problem, admittedly, but most people tend to use a fairly small room for their play room. Plan your furniture purchases accordingly. If you're using a very large room, such as a basement, you'll want to use the next guide instead of this one.
