Factors Affecting Sexual Confidence and How to Overcome Them

By Elena Ognivtseva

Every now and again something happens that is beyond our control leaving us worried about the looks we'd previously become used to. Although 99% of men and women would happily change at least one thing about their body we do after time accept our features and figures and make the best of our best assets. However sometimes life events take over putting a blot on our beautiful landscape and with the decrease in confidence comes a lack of sexual desire.

Childbirth

Childbirth can be damaging to sexual confidence as your body changes dramatically, however remember your bits will spring back to their original tightness and your boobs will probably be an extra cup size so you could find sex even better than ever.

Teeth

For something so small it is amazing how much our teeth affect our confidence. We're always ribbed by the Americans for having less than perfect teeth however we do know how to take care of them and we feel it when something goes wrong. If you have broken or missing teeth for a time you'll feel less likely to smile making your partner wonder if you still find them attractive at all. All of these problems can be fixed on the NHS so try not to avoid making an appointment, in the meantime remember that once you have that first kiss your lover won't be looking at your teeth at all!

Full Length Mirrors

Mirrors are a blessing and a curse especially the full length ones. A recent survey showed that many of us actually avoid mirrors when out and about as they can have a negative impact on our confidence. I have first-hand experience of this as I've recently moved house and my new bathroom is mirrored from floor to ceiling. Seeing myself from all angles has quite simply devastated me as I never realised I had cellulite on my behind or a funny looking mole on my back! Remember though that your partner has seen you like this for a long time and found you gorgeous, so it is all in your head. The best thing to do is to get a sheet and just cover the poxy things up.

Comments from Others

Sometimes comments from others can hurt, especially from a friend or family member as we expect them to protect our feelings. My mother once told me that I must have a kidney problem because of my rounded face after I'd put on a little weight and then when I lost weight, she told me I looked better but had many more wrinkles! I've also had a gay friend who decided we were in our own little club as we were both 'no oil paintings" which hurt me deeply, yet I've been approached by modelling agencies in the past so it does show that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. Try not to let others pull you down as if you worry about their opinions all the time there's really no point in having an opinion of your own.

Bad Breath

More people than you realise actually suffer from bad breath although they cover it well so you'd never notice. Whether it's temporary or permanent it can be debilitating once someone has pointed it out and it can lower confidence considerably. Natural ways to neutralise breath include brushing your teeth and tongue with baking soda or chewing on parsley throughout the day, or you can carry a fresh breath spray. If the problem is on-going see your doctor or dentist as you shouldn't have to live with the problem.
