Getting back into the dating scene

By Elena Ognivtseva

Depending on your personal circumstance, you could be finding yourself back in the dating market after years of being in a committed, long term relationship. Looking back you probably would never have imagined that you would have found yourself anywhere near the bar scene, being single and feeling completely out of your element.

But with divorce statistics continuing to be blown out of the roof, unfortunately, the odds are against you keeping together forever and more in favor of you being available again, even against your best efforts to keep your relationship intact.

And depending on how old you are and how long you were together or married, it can be very disconcerted to be back in the meat market. You, all of a sudden, find yourself competing with younger, sexier, flirtier, girls who are wearing less clothing, more makeup, and definitely haven’t had kids or stretch marks.

It can be a very vulnerable position to be in and depending on how much of thick skin you acquired over the years or how much self esteem you have managed to hang on to, you can be really feeling out of your element and considering joining the nunnery.

But you have to know this as well. You have a lot of life and relationship experience and the best thing you can do is not compete with things you can’t compete against, and compete against things that you can. You are smarter, wiser, and more competent on a number of different levels never mind more experienced in the sex department.

It can be quite thrilling actually to be hit on by so many young studs whose biggest fantasy is to find their own Mrs Robinson and snag a cougar of their own. But unless you are rally just looking for a rebound fling, you might just want to avoid entering into those kinds of relationships. There is undoubtedly nothing but hassles and heartache waiting to happen around that enticing and dangerous corner.

But there are many men your age, although some may need to re-inflate their egos and manhood with the young babes, who also appreciate what a more mature and experienced woman can bring to the table. So don’t sell yourself short for even a second, you do have a lot to offer still. Don’t let a failed relationship take that away from you.

You can have a second or third or fourth chance at love – and every man you meet brings another possibility. Just put yourself out there, be confident, hold out for exactly what you want and you never know, happiness might just be right around the corner. But most of all have fun with your new found freedom – you deserve it.
