When is Ejaculation Classed as Premature?

By Elena Ognivtseva

It’s a concern for almost all men and some of them have come up with some kooky ways to avoid it; such as picturing their favorite football team or thinking about an algebra problem, but what exactly is premature ejaculation and how can it be dealt with?

What is Premature Ejaculation?

The term ‘premature ejaculation’ is used an awful lot, but what does it really mean? When is ejaculation ‘premature’? Well, the term is used when a man experiences ejaculation before he, or his lover, would like it to occur. Described thus, it’s hard to imagine any man who hasn’t experienced premature ejaculation at least once in his lifetime.

However, what men may not realize is that they’re making the problem much worse by worrying about it. When the male brain starts to dwell on ejaculation, the body’s response is to hasten the process. And whether he’s thinking about baseball or not, at least subconsciously, his brain is thinking about ejaculation, otherwise he wouldn’t be trying to take his conscious mind elsewhere. Consequently, thinking of unsexual thoughts in a bid to prolong intercourse rarely works and could actually make matters worse.

Time to Blast Off

The fact of the matter is that sex, in the real world, is nothing like those marathon sessions portrayed in films and erotic literature. The truth is that (according to the Kinsey Report) 75% of men ejaculate within two minutes of penetration in at least 50% of their sexual encounters.

Now, this may not seem like good news for us girls, because we tend to enjoy slightly longer sessions of love making. However, I think the problem is that men, and often women, regard sex as over after ejaculation. And, of course, this doesn’t have to be the case. He still has his hands and his tongue, so it doesn’t mean that as soon as he’s finished, your lack of orgasm is your tough beans. In fact, even if you have experienced an orgasm, we women are made for more than one…so, he should still get back on the case!

Effective Ways to Prevent Premature Ejaculation

Bear in mind that premature ejaculation is only a ‘problem’ if it’s a problem for you or your lover. There are no rules about how long sex should last and absolutely nothing to prevent long sessions of foreplay and post-coitus stimulation.

That said, if premature ejaculation is a problem, I strongly advise against the visualizing/distraction method, because it simply doesn’t work. Instead, men should try the start-stop technique, which, as the name suggests, involves interrupting the flow or rhythm of sex to give the man’s excitement time to wane, before beginning again.

This is something that men can practice alone during masturbation. Often, when it comes to sex with a partner, they can simply cease the thrusting motion without having to withdraw. However, even if he does need to withdraw, he can continue to kiss and caress his partner, thus maintaining intimacy.

If premature ejaculation is an issue within your relationship, I recommend that you discuss it with your lover. There are many ways to ensure that you both have a fulfilling sex life. However, if the problem goes unmentioned, there is no hope of it being solved.
