How to use a dildo

By Ekaterina Mironova

Dildos don’t come with instructions. The makers of sex toys assume that everyone knows how to stick something up their ass or twat, however when using a dildo for the first time it can be quite an experience.

While the advice here isn’t a step-by-step instruction manual on how to use your dildo, it will give you some helpful tips on how to make your dildo experience more pleasurable and comfortable.

After your first time, using a dildo will become a breeze. Sit back, relax, open up wide and keep some of these tips in mind when you’re ready to take the ride.

Lubricate

A woman’s natural juices, no matter how much they may be are not enough lubrication for a dildo. For men, the anus doesn’t lubricate itself at all, so make sure to use lots and lots of lubricant. Some materials aren’t slick enough to glide in and out by themselves, and may even absorb your natural moisture and cause friction that will leave your nether regions feeling sore. So grab a bottle of lubricant for better play. Remember that some lubes and dildos are not compatible. Check out Introducing a dildo into your relationship – Dos for a list of dildo do’s and don’t.

Ready yourself for play

After you’ve applied the lube, just don’t shove the toy in. Just like sex with a partner, your body has to be ready. Lay back, relax and play with yourself a bit. If you’re not going at it alone, have your lover go down on you before you start the thrusting action.

Slow and Steady

If you take long deep breaths, blood will rush to your genitals, making them engorge and relax. Short and shallow breaths will have the reverse effect. Relax! You have all the time in the world. Slowly slide your dildo in, leave it there for a moment and enjoy the feeing of being filled and stretched. Slowly control your thrusting and depth, experimenting as you go, until you find the perfect combination. Lube up your genitals to keep yourself excited and enjoy the ride!

Clean

After the fun is all done, you’re not finished. Always make sure you wash your dildo with antibacterial soap and water, commercial sex toy cleaner or sterilize it. Rinse your dildo with clear water after and make sure it is thoroughly dried.

Store

When your dildo is squeaky clean and dry, store it in a dry, room temperature place. We suggest a padded sex toy pouch, bag, or box, but wrapping your little buddy in a soft material and placing it in a drawer is just fine.

Now you’re ready for next time!
