Kissing is an old means of displaying affection to your loved ones. Did you know that animals can kiss? Does kissing put you at the risk of contracting infections? there are some facts you need to know about kissing. It is not about the connecting of lips and sharing of saliva only.

When talking about romance and intimacy, nothing starts without a kiss. It’s a super-romantic thing, with the right person at the right time. It’s the first thing you experience when you discover love, it can spark you up and can be a total mood changer. It speaks a lot about a partner, and a good kisser has an overall advantage when it comes to romance and love. Everybody shares a different opinion and facts about kissing; some are true, but some aren't. Different cultures also have different beliefs about kissing. Kissing is a nice way to get intimate as it's an ordinary but strong display of affection. Kissing also differs depending on the type of relationship. The type of kiss you give to a friend will be different from what you give to your partner. Here are five facts about kissing that you should be aware of.

Not Everyone Is Into Kissing

Everybody has and is entitled to their opinion. Not everyone loves to kiss although kissing is an ordinary display of affection. There are some obvious reasons why one would not be into kissing. These include the factor of oral hygiene, where some are extremely cautious about their oral health. Some people also don't like kissing because they are insecure about their kissing skills, as Neustaedter & Greenberg (2012) noted. Self-confidence can also be a factor that will make people dislike displaying their affection through kissing. You might not be familiar with the kissing techniques, but it's not the end of the world. You must understand that everyone kisses differently, and there is no particular formula for kissing. This is a factor you should consider, especially with a potential partner.

Animals and Humans are Alike

You might have seen animals kissing on documentary shows or in real life. They are common in the ape family, especially the bonobos and chimpanzees. However, unlike humans, where kissing is more of a display of romance, it's more of reconciliation than a 'kiss and make-up' practice for chimpanzees. It is significantly less ethical than the rest of their kind; bonobos kiss more often. Theirs goes more than a smooch to the point of using their tongues as we might otherwise refer to French kissing. According to Furuichi (2019),  bonobos greet each other by having sex, their version of a hug or handshake. Despite all this, their kisses aren't considered romantic in any way.

Men are More Likely to Initiate Kissing

Asendorpf et al. (2013) discovered that women value kissing more importance in every stage of the relationship than men do. However, men are more likely to initiate kissing than women, preferably tongue kissing than closed-mouth pecks. According to Graham et al. (2004), kissing initiates several things, including sex, and can be a major turn-on. Some men are more likely to ignore kissing as a part of foreplay and jump right into the main event. Kissing is a very important factor to a woman. Though some are bold enough to initiate lip-to-lip action, it's important as a man to understand this, regardless of your insecurities.

A Bad Kisser Can Be a Snag

Put insecurities aside and be a good kisser. Some people fail to kiss their partners and this can be a turn-off. According to Gawande (2011), a snag includes people who launch themselves to their partner, expecting an intense make-out. Kissing should be slow and smooth; keep in mind that this is an intimate moment and should not be rushed like any other. There is also the issue of lip and tongue connection. It would be best to be lenient on how much pressure you are putting in and the amount of saliva you are sharing with your partner. A bad kisser can be a deal-breaker, especially when you are just at the beginning of a new relationship. It can end a potential relationship before it even starts. Women are naturally good kissers, and the quality of a man's kiss can mean a lot to them.

Kissing Has Risks

kissing is exciting and is a nice way to display affection to your loved ones, but it comes with a downside. Some diseases can be passed from one person to another through kissing. These include Herpes, also known as cold sores or glandular fever. It is also known as a kissing disease because it can be contracted through kissing. It's more common among young people, and you have a good idea why. This disease can leave you feeling exhausted for a few months. This is not true, and it's nearly impossible although there are myths that HIV can be contracted through kissing. Another risk, however not so crucial, is the bad breath coming out of the mouth of the person you are kissing. This could be because they don’t practice personal oral hygiene. However, before you go around kissing people, be sure you know them to a certain extent before interlocking your lips.

Conclusion

Actions speak louder than words, and kissing is one very strong action to display affection to a loved one. Kissing is exciting and can be fun, but caution is needed. Kissing also displays risks of contracting diseases through sharing of saliva. give yourselves time before you can start kissing when you meet a new partner. However, kissing also comes with advantages other than intimacy. Kissing for long periods will get your heart rate going and be like working out. Intense kissing also burns about 6 calories per minute. Practice oral hygiene to make kissing enjoyable. Encourage your man to kiss more to spice your love life. Bet you had no idea of this and the facts above. Information is power, and how you use it is up to you.
