Strap On Harnesses and Harness Compatible Dildos Guide
Strap On Harnesses and Harness Compatible Dildos Guide
Strap on dildos can be a fantastic addition to any relationship regardless of whether you're heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual. You can purchase strap ons that already come as harness and dildo kits, or you can buy dildos and harnesses separately.
Harness Facts
A strap on harness as is worn like a pair of briefs or a thong. These harnesses come with either fully adjustable straps (nylon or metal buckle fastening) or fully elasticated straps which allow them to fit up to 60 inch hips depending upon the style selected. Strap-on harnesses are usually made from vinyl or sturdy and inexpensive Nylon, with more expensive examples being made from leather. The section at the very front of the harness is normally padded so that it feels more comfortable against the pubic area.
O-rings
The O-ring is an essential part of the strap-on harness because without this the dildo would not be able to stay in place during penetration. Harnesses can come with a single O-ring attachment or feature up to 3 different O-rings which vary in size. The more O-rings that come with your strap on harness, the more dildos it will be able to incorporate. For instance, if a harness comes with 1.25, 1.5 and 1.75 inch O-rings then it can accommodate dildos with any of those widths. If it just comes with a 1.5 inch O-ring then it can only fit dongs with 1.5 inch widths. O-rings are usually made out of metal or rubber with rubber O-rings being more flexible and metal ones imparting a more secure fit.
A number of harnesses also come with a pocket in the front for an (included) bullet vibrator to go in which provides the wearer with clitoral pleasures whilst they're penetrating their partner. A good example of this is the Sportsheets Vibrating Corsette Harness (£44.99) which has a lace-up corset style back, fits up to 60 inch hips and also comes with 3 interchangeable rubber O-rings. An exception to the O-ring rule is the Vac-U-Lock Harness and Dong (£59.97) which doesn't have an O-ring but comes with a special peg which holds its dildo securely in place. However, because this strap-on harness has its own fitments and no O-rings, ordinary flared base dildos are not compatible.
Harness Compatible Dildos
How do you know which dildos will be compatible with strap-on harnesses? When selecting a dildo, it should be one with a flared base. This base can be bent back to go through the O-ring, locking securely into place once through. If you choose one without a flared base, the dildo will struggle to stay in place during penetration. Ensure that the width of the dildo is the same size as the O-ring attachment otherwise it won't fit. If you already have a dildo with a flared base in your collection, then you can use this with a strap-on harness providing the width of the dildo and the O-ring are compatible. If you don't, Tantus John Doe (£37.95) is a good dong to go for. This 6 inch long flared base silicone dildo is available in Cream or Black and comes with a bullet vibrator which fits into the recess in its base if you want to add vibrations.
Helpful Hints
Apply a little water based lubricant to the dildo if you're finding it difficult fixing it to the O-ring.
If any of your rubber O-rings split, rubber cock rings are a great replacement.
