Meet Betony Vernon, the Famous Creator of Elegantly Erotic Jewelry

Betony Vernon deals in erotic jewelry. Consider this article to know more about erotic jewelry, Betony Vernon's history, Betony Vernon's journey to success, Betony Vernon, the anthropologist, and Betony Vernon, the sex educator.

The erotic jewelry associated with Betony Vernon is sensual, but she prefers to refer to them as tools. Her objective has been to ‘educate adults about sex and empower them through pleasure' rather than strictly focusing on the business aspect. Vernon started by designing ordinary jewelry before moving on to designing sensual jewelry. In the beginning, she was designing them for private clients. Vernon thought she would make sales with the erotic jewelry, but she did not, and therefore she decided to be an erotic educator from then onwards. This article is a compilation of information gathered from several various interviews;

What is erotic jewelry?

Jewelry is item people wear for various reasons, such as for beauty, power, protection, traditions, and even art. Erotic jewelry is worn not only for beauty but also for sexual arousal. Betony Vernon is a famous erotic jewelry designer.

Betony Vernon’s history

Betony Vernon was born in Tazewell, Virginia. She is the daughter of an art historian mother and a pilot father. She was the third of her parents' four children, all girls. She was married to Barnaba Forsnasetti from 2004 to 2014.

Betony Vernon’s Journey to Success

In 1990, Betony Vernon graduated with an Art History degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a religious studies and goldsmithing minor. Smurthwaite (2013) discovered that Betony Vernon created her first erotic jewelry in 1992, but the society was conservative and reluctant to adorn erotic jewelry, so she chose to sell her jewelry privately. Chiaro 2018 revealed that Vernon designed a jewelry box known as the Boudoir box and sold it directly to the public in 2017. Vernon says that she made the Boudoir box for herself, but she got so much attention when she walked out with it, and some customers started making orders. She also sells bespoke fittings. Bespoke fittings are customized garments. The garments are made from scratch according to the client’s specifications. However, Betony Vernon also refers to herself as an industrial designer. An industrial designer makes the designs an item that will be reproduced in the same design for mass production.

Bertone Vernon says in her interviews that she has been fascinated by erotic jewelry since she was 17. She had no idea where her erotic jewelry would take her, but she tried anyway. Vernon did not make as many sales as hoped with her erotic jewelry and therefore felt the need to be a sex educator to educate prospective clients. She continued designing jewelry for private clients. Her main interest was to make jewelry to meet her needs, but when Vernon realized that plastic jewelry was not comfortable. She also realized that most plastics are not safe for the body. The plastics were also not durable. She, therefore, ventured into silver jewelry. She liked silver because it is easy to clean, non-porous, and naturally anti-bacterial. She prefers silver toys because the plastic toys resemble children’s toys, in her opinion. She felt that the materials and the colors used for the children's toys were a distraction for an activity meant for adults only.

Betony Vernon, the Anthropologist

Betony Vernon refers to herself as a sexual anthropologist because she delves into the history of sexuality and examines it to enable her clients to achieve pleasure during sex. Betony Vernon tries to debunk the mystery and the myths surrounding sex. Sex has always been a taboo topic, as Farberow (2013) stated

Betony Vernon, the Sex Educator

Vernon works with private clients who consult her so that they may understand how to find ways of pleasuring themselves. She believes that there should be nothing to be ashamed of as shame inhibits pleasurable sex and that being open about sex is the easiest avenue towards having safe sex. Vernon emphasizes the need for people to treat the body as a sexual organ because focusing on the genitals means that we can only have quickies. She shuns quickies because they do not give us the time we need to understand the body's potential to find pleasure during sex. Picart (2012) revealed that Vernon also encourages people to explore their bodies with tools like sex toys and techniques, to ensure that the full body gets stimulated. Betony Vernon does not focus on women only. She also encourages men not to bow to the pressure to be what they are, not by discouraging them from trying anything to extend their sexual organs because penis enlargement is impossible, as Cooperman & Martin  (2021) showed.

The Reception of Betony Vernon’s First Erotic Jewelry

Betony Vernon wanted to introduce erotic jewelry into the fashion market in the early '90s. Still, at that time, the fashion world did not want to be associated with bold sexual overtures. She realized that the fashion world can still not agree on what is sexual and not sexual. Vernon resorted to having private clients following the confusion on whether fashion could accept erotic jewelry. Vernon had been told expressly by a fashion hostess that the jewelry designs that she had created were inappropriate. Vernon became lax and she would approach her with her jewelry from her negative experience in the fashion world. Vernon decided to get to the problem, so she became a sex educator. She realized that she would have to educate her clients if she ever achieved any success in designing erotic jewelry.

What Does Betony Vernon’s job as a Sex Educator Entail?

Betony Vernon tried to encourage openness among her clients. She asserts that her main goal is to crush the pleasure taboo where people view sex as if it were a taboo. She claims not to sit and watch a client but helps them find their pleasure. Vernon deals with clients of both genders.

Conclusion

Betony Vernon is famous for being a sex educator and a designer of jewelry pieces that we can use for sensual pleasure. She taught jewelry making in Italy and has a master's degree in Industrial Design from Domus Academy in Milan. Over the years, Vernon has created various jewelry inspired by religion, eroticism, and art. She was motivated when she realized that the market had a gap in ensuring that luxurious jewelry was pleasurable. She intended to create jewelry that was sensual, aesthetic, and erotic. Betony Vernon now has various collections of jewelry that are symbols of luxury, self-empowerment, and pleasure.
