Is It Safe To Share Sex Toys?
When it comes to sex, anything to do with sex, health, safety and cleanliness should be a prime concern. Your toys are no different. You certainly wouldn't be wise to use a plug-in electric vibrator while in the bathtub, and you probably shouldn't buy an anal plug at the thrift store.
Do you have a best friend with whom you share everything? Have you considered trading or sharing toys, too? You should be as careful in deciding who are willing to share toys with as you are in deciding who you will have intercourse with. When you use toys during sex, they may come into contact with vaginal fluid, semen or feces, all of which can carry disease.
The safest thing to do is to use condoms and to keep your toys clean. If you are going to share, you should research the best method of completely cleaning your items. You may need to submerge them in boiling water. You should certainly check the manufacturer's directions or do some internet research.
If your toy is damaged in any way - cracks or torn parts or broken pieces - do not share it. In fact, do not use it at all. Just get a new one. No matter how much you love it, don't risk your health and well being. Bacteria can thrive on damaged, broken or cracked devices, so do yourself a favor and invest in one that cannot hurt you!
Obviously, if you are having unprotected sex with your partner then sharing sex toys may be of no additional consequence to you. Normal safety precautions are necessary of course, so use a condom, and practice safe sex. If you are involved in a long term relationship you may not need to use condoms, but if you are worried about disease in the least, take the safe road.
