OKAY, BUT WHAT IS A DRY ORGASM?

OKAY, BUT WHAT IS A DRY ORGASM?

OKAY, BUT WHAT IS A DRY ORGASM?

Orgasm is the best feeling that most people wish to experience when having sex or masturbating. However, have you ever experienced a dry orgasm? What is it, and how does it feel? Learn more about dry orgasms below.

Dry orgasm is also referred to as orgasmic anejaculation. It usually occurs when someone reaches climax without releasing sperms. One can experience a dry orgasm no matter how hard they stimulate the penis. It can happen during masturbation or during sex. Another form of orgasmic anejaculation occurs when one cannot reach orgasm or ejaculate while awake. Dry orgasm is caused by various factors, and depending on the cause, it may be temporal or last forever. The condition is not necessarily a serious health issue. It only becomes worrying when one tries getting kids.

Causes of Dry Orgasm

There are many reports indicating that dry orgasm mostly happens after the surgical removal of the prostate or bladder. These procedures may stop the production of sperms, meaning a man cannot ejaculate when he reaches climax. Other factors that may lead to dry orgasm include.

  • Nerve damage because of multiple sclerosis, diabetes, or spinal cord injury.
  • Medication for high blood pressure, mood disorder, or enlarged prostate.
  • Blocked sperm duct.
  • Low testosterone levels.
  • A genetic reproductive disorder.
  • Laser prostate surgery and procedures that treat enlarged prostate.
  • Radiotherapy for prostate cancer treatment.
  • Testicular cancer treatment surgery.
  • Psychological issues and stress. However, this is situational. Some people may reach climax and ejaculate even when stressed.

Is Dry Orgasm the Same as Retrograde Ejaculation?

Although dry orgasm and retrograde ejaculation can occur simultaneously, these conditions are not the same. Retrograde ejaculation occurs when your bladder's neck cannot close the orgasm. Usually, the bladder fails to stop the backflow, allowing the semen to go back to the bladder. In most cases, the condition occurs because of alpha-blocking medications like Flomax or surgical procedures for the prostate and bladder, which damages the neck of the bladder.

Men who suffer from retrograde ejaculation produce little or no semen when they reach climax. However, the urine after sex is cloudy with semen content. On the other hand, when a man experiences dry orgasms, they don’t release semen.

Who is at Risk?

Dry orgasm has various causes. People who have undergone radical prostatectomy surgery to remove their prostate are most likely to experience dry orgasms. Also, diabetic people or those who have undergone pelvic surgery to treat prostate, bladder, or testicular cancer are at higher risk of experiencing dry orgasm.

How is Dry Orgasm Diagnosed?

If you think you are experiencing dry orgasm, consult your doctor for a diagnosis. The doctor first asks about the symptoms, recent procedures, and medication use. They then perform a physical examination on the penis, rectum, and testicles.

The doctor might also examine your urine after you have reached climax to see if it is clouded with semen. This will determine whether what you are going through is retrograde ejaculation or dry orgasm. Normally, this analysis is carried out at the doctor's office. You will have to masturbate until you reach orgasm and collect your urine sample for testing.

If a lot of sperm is found in the urine, you might be diagnosed with retrograde ejaculation. If there is no semen in your urine, you are likely to be diagnosed with dry orgasm. In addition, the doctor may carry out another test or can refer you to a specialist to determine the main cause.

How is Dry Orgasm treated?

There is no one-way treatment for dry orgasm. Treatment depends on the cause. For instance, if the dry orgasm is caused by tamsulosin, also known as Flomax, the ejaculation ability will return to normal when you stop taking the medicines. On the contrary, if the dry orgasm is due to situational or psychological stress, counseling may help you through the situation and restore normal functioning. If the condition results from retrograde ejaculation, your doctor will prescribe medication to keep the neck muscle of the bladder closed when you reach climax. Such medication includes,

  • Brompheniramine
  • Imipramine, also known as Tofranil
  • Midodrine
  • Ephedrine or akovaz
  • phenylephrine hydrochloride
  • chlorpheniramine or chlor-tremetol

Does Dry Orgasm Have an Effect on Fertility?

If the condition is not frequent, it might not cause a long-term effect on fertility or cause complications. The doctor should offer you sufficient information on specific diagnoses and also outlooks. Depending on the underlying cause, normal ejaculation may be restored naturally through vibrator therapy. It is believed that this increases stimulation and may help in encouraging normal sexual functioning. If you are concerned about fertility, the doctor might recommend electroejaculation to obtain semen samples for artificial insemination. The sperm can also be extracted directly from the testicles.

The Bottom Line

Dry orgasm is a condition caused by several factors.  It usually happens when one reaches climax but is unable to ejaculate. The condition can be controlled if the cause is determined. If the condition is recurrent, it may affect fertility. If you want to have kids,  sperms may be obtained directly from the testicles for insemination, or electroejaculation may be performed to obtain sperms.
