The body creates natural lubrication, but there’s nothing wrong with adding a little to what nature provides. Sex toys almost always go better with a little additional lubrication. There are two big advantages to using a lubricant with sex toys; first, it just feels better. The toy goes in easier, slides better, and helps you achieve a superior orgasm. Second, using lubrication is safer and avoids unnecessary discomfort. Friction is good, but too much friction is painful. Using a little extra lubricant will make sure you always have a smile on your face when you get to having some fun!
But, not all lubricants are the same, and different types of vibrators may require different types of lubricants. Let’s take a look at the most common lubes out there today.
Water-Based Lubricants
If you’re using a silicone-based sex toy, you’ll need a water-based lubricant to go with it. Silicone-based lubes with silicone-based vibrators just won’t work, and cause the toy’s surface to degrade. Water-based lubricants are of course, easy to clean up, all you need to do is rinse it off when you’re done.
Silicone-Based Lubricants
A silicone-based lubricant can be very stimulating, and are perfect for using waterproof toys in the bath or pool. A silicone lubricant lasts longer than the water-based variety, which is another key advantage if you’re planning a long session. Clean-up may take a little longer when you’re done, but just ordinary soap and water will do the trick. As mentioned, using silicone lubricants with silicone toys is generally not a good idea though.
Oil-Based Lubricants
Oil-based lubricants should be used with caution. Never use them with latex condoms, as they can destroy the latex. Also, depending on the type of oil, there may be potential for an allergic reaction. Oil-based lubricants can also be irritating to the vagina; these are used mainly for anal sex.
Petroleum-Based Lubricants
A petroleum-based lubricant is much thicker than other varieties. Thicker lubes are usually required for anal sex or playing with anal sex toys. It isn’t recommended to use petroleum-based lubricants with vaginal play, as they may cause irritation; and as such it is not recommended for use with sex toys meant for female penetration. Also, don’t ever use this type with latex toys or with a condom, because they will often destroy the latex.
Flavoured Lubricants
If you want to use a lubricant, but don’t want to hold back in any way, then a flavoured lubricant may be in order. You can be as oral as you want to be, even after lubricating, and that can add an extra dimension of fun and excitement. Flavoured Lubricants are usually water-based.
Arousal Lubricants
Some lubricants offer a “warming” sensation, which can be very pleasurable and exciting. They are perfectly safe, and the lubricant itself actually does not produce heat – it just feels like it. These types of lubes can definitely add a bit of spice to your adventure.
All in all, a good lubricant can enhance an already great experience. Experiment a little, and start with a small amount and then vary depending on your preferences and what feels best. At the end of the day, you know what feels best for you!
