How Do Cock Rings Work and How Do You Put A Cock Ring On?

By Tatyana Dyachenko

Cock rings are one of the best known types of sexual aids available to men. Usually worn around the base of the penis, they restrict the flow of blood inside the erect penis in order to either maintain or encourage a stronger erection. This in turn makes the erection feel harder, stronger, and longer lasting. As well as the more commonplace cock rings that go around the base of the penis, there are also cock rings available that go around the testicles and the penis.

How to Put a Cock Ring On

In terms of consistency, there are two different types of cock rings – those that are stretchy and those that are rigid. Your penis needs to be erect before putting on stretchy cock rings (i.e. those made from jelly). Simply stretch the ring over your penis and place it around the base of the shaft. Rigid cock rings (i.e. those made from metal or rubber) such as the Rubber 3 Cock Ring Set require the penis to be flaccid when they're put on. Ease the ring over the penis head, down the shaft and into position at the base. While you're becoming erect, the cock ring will start to feel tighter but not uncomfortable. To get either flexible or rigid cock rings into place easier, add a little water based lubricant to the inside which makes them slide down the shaft effortlessly.

How to Put Linked Cock and Ball Rings On

If you're using cock and ball rings such as the Steel Ball and Cock Rings (2 rigid rings that are usually linked with a leather strap), the penis should be flaccid when you put them on. The ring that goes around the balls is larger than the cock ring that fits around the shaft. Begin by placing one testicle through the larger ring followed by the other one so that the cock ring fits around the scrotum. Manoeuvre the head of the penis through the smaller cock ring until it's in place at the base of the shaft. Again, the addition of lubricant can greatly aid this process. Using this type of cock ring can further add to sensations and delay orgasms.

How to Put a 3 Ring Cock Ring On

3 ringed cock rings or cock cages such as the Tri 3 Ring Cock Ring are more stretchy than rigid due the flexibility that's needed. Squeeze the smallest and largest rings together and slide them down to the base of the penis with the medium sized ring underneath. Once this is in place, pull the testicles through the largest and down through the medium sized ring which will result in the largest ring going around the penis and balls, the medium ring around the testicles and the smallest around the shaft of the penis. Again, this should be used with a flaccid penis. It's a good idea to lubricate these cock rings prior to use to make things easier. A harder, stronger erection should be achieved and premature ejaculation guarded against.

Can Cock Rings Cause Any Harm?

Wearing a cock ring that is too tight can cause the penis damage so if you experience any amount of pain, numbness or changes in colour then stop wearing it straight away. It's important to wear the correct size cock ring. By their very nature cock rings are designed to slightly increase the size of your erection but if you get any kind of pronounced swelling then this is also an indication that the cock ring is too tight. Wearing a cock ring for too long can also cause damage to the erectile tissues. It's recommended that cock rings are worn for no longer than 30 minutes at a time to avoid any problems from occurring. Beginners to cock rings should go for stretchy rings initially as these are easier to remove than rigid cock rings should any pain etc be experienced. Stretchy cock rings can even be cut off if necessary.
