There’s always been something desirable about ending up with “one of the loud ones” – they’re more adventurous, they’re more vocal, they tell you what they want… and when one of the loud ones happens to be your neighbour, you know how much fun they’re having.

It just goes to show that all of your speculation may be true. A study conducted by the University of Leeds has discovered that there is a direct link between loud love-making and the levels of pleasure and enjoyment. Your grunts, groans and screams of “oh yes” might do more than just wake up the neighbours.

Women, the study concluded, enjoyed higher sexual satisfaction when their partner responded audibly to their lovemaking. It is suggested that they are responding well because they are being reassured of how good they are in bed. The better you perform, the more he’ll react. And, for him, that means better sex. It’s like a verbal highlights tour of his body as he grunts you through the good spots.

Men also have a positive reaction to a loud partner; they tend to enjoy sex more as their partner groans them on – with most women reporting that they make noise just before their partner’s orgasm and during. In fact, almost 75% of women respondents included in the research reported that they used sexual noises to help their partners finish.

The results of the study are clear: louder sex = more fun. Researchers are speculating as to why our lovemaking noise levels affect our enjoyment of sex, with many psychological theories balancing on the idea that appreciative noises are a direct boost to self-esteem levels. Either way, it doesn’t hurt to have that motivation to be the noisy neighbours!
