Can Regular Exercise Improve your Sex Life?

Can Regular Exercise Improve your Sex Life?

By Elena Ognivtseva

Well, the short answer to this question is yes! Exercise has been scientifically proven to improve sex by increasing testosterone levels, increasing blood flow to the genital region (and therefore upping the level of sensitivity) and making orgasms more intense. Great sex-boosting forms of exercise including endurance training (see below), yoga, and while it’s not strictly exercise; meditation.

For those who are already experienced in yoga you can try these poses at home, just search for images online. If you’ve never tried it or if you’re a beginner then it’s best to take a few classes first. There are some specific yoga poses which are known to improve sexual appetite and sexual health. Here are a select few.

Wide Legged Saddle Post – increases blood flow to the pelvic region and is therefore great for fixing a low libido.

Pigeon Pose – great for women as it releases tension and tightness in the hips and restores flexibility…which we all know is a must for great sex!

Bridge Pose – this is another one for the ladies; the Bridge Pose strengthens the pelvic floor muscles to tone the vagina and, therefore improve orgasms. Hurrah!

Childs Pose – is great for blissful relaxation. If we aren’t relaxed then we are very unlikely to feel sexy. Remember to calm down, take a few breaths and chill. A content and happy person will enjoy sex far more than someone who is rushed and stressed.

So how exactly can exercise improve our sex lives? Look below.

Endurance:

Enthusiastic , passionate and intense sex is all about endurance, and regular exercise is the number one way of increasing your endurance levels. Activities such as running, swimming, cycling and rowing are all excellent ways of improving your cardio-vascular endurance and strength. So get down the gym a couple times a week and reap the benefits!

Flexibility:

While most of us don’t get into wild Karma Sutra inspired poses each and every time we make love, it’s always a good idea to try and keep your body limber and flexible. If you’re struggling to get into ‘normal’ positions such as girl on top and doggy then you really need to increase your flexibility by taking some exercise classes such as yoga. No one wants to feel like they are struggling in the sack, and you shouldn’t have to put up with this pain.

Confidence:

A BIG part of having a healthy sex drive and sex life is to do with your amount of self-confidence! If you’re feeling a bit nervous or even ashamed about your body then you’re very unlikely to feel sexy. Exercising regularly will help to keep your weight down, your muscles toned and your skin clear which will do wonders for your overall self image!
